               Lumps of Coal for Congress

    Combines science with good citizenship

You will need a lump of bituminous coal. Here are the instructions for experimenting with coal directly. Unfortunately you cannot smell the coal in the Rocks That Burn video.

If you have questions or need help finding coal contact us at

After burning a small piece of your coal, you are left with the question of what to do with what is leftover. We suggest that you send the remainder of the coal to your elected representatives. Their local offices are nearby and they would love to hear from you. If it is not possible for you to hand deliver or mail in a real lump of coal, you can perhap email a simple message instead. Here are the addresses and contact information for your representatives both in the House and the Senate.

The goal of this "Lumps of Coal" campaign is to send a strong, clear message to each member of Congress asking them to act in our best interest by immediately phasing out CO2 emissions from fossil fuels. The science, not the confusing disinformation sponsored by special interests, but the actual science dictates that there is NO OTHER responsible course but to act immediately and expeditiously to replace all forms of fossil fuels with renewable energy sources. We know how to do this. We must do it NOW.

Author’s Comment: If we take responsible action, we, the people, have a lot to gain. We will modernize our power grid; we will reduce our cost of energy by cutting wastefulness; we will grow jobs and we will move forward to a cleaner, healthier future for ourselves and our children. We will become proud and responsible stewards of our environment and informed guardians of our climate for all species on this planet.
